experience only counts if you have the degree to back it up. Would you believe there are secretarial positions advertised asking for a degree in secretarial sciences(were you aware there was such a beast??) as a prerequisite??? I kid you not. One time while scanning the want ads I actually saw an advertisement for a telemarketing job selling a local newspaper. I laughed out loud when I saw that they were asking for a two year degree( any degree would do,they just wanted you to have a college background before they pay you minimum wages. Maybe it's not like this in all of New York,I live in Upstate. If you are going to go downstate into the city I do know that it's expensive to live but taking into consideration your circumstances( no family to support and looking to gain experience) I say go for it. You have nothing to lose and all that experience to gain.

I can believe everything you say, because this
unjustified academic bollox began, for us, in
London, about two years ago. Again, it was telesales
companies that upped the bar. When confronted
over why they were demanding potential employees
possess honours degrees (for what it is,
essentially, monkey work [and I know, because
I do a bit on the side]), they replied: 'This is
London. We do it, because we can.'
Fair enough, because competition is tough. But
it's bollox, because the wages don't reflect the
competitiveness of achieving them.
Better to form a rock-band, I think, then
struggle for a decade or so on the toilet circuit.
Finally get a deal, then get dropped after a week
because nobody's buying your music - not because
it's shit, but because of downloading

I've got a feeling New York would kick
my ass, actually. And as for The Darkness,
I'll be glad when I'm able to see the
light again.
BTW: the url for No Connection has slightly
changed:

LOL@the Darkness comment. I'll check out the new URL and as for New York kicking your ass,I dunno D. Personally I don't like that big city thing but if I were a talented artist of a sort then I think I might entertain doing an intern ship for the summer so I could pad my resume'.

I think zipping up the mp3 will probably
make dl'ing (for you) quicker - it's only
2.9megs now.
Will be applying (if at all) to the New York
jobs around the middle of Mayish, I suppose,
once our current academic year ends. Ideally
I'd like to spend at least August - September
in Italy/Europe, gigging, recording etc. But
if we can squeeze in a couple of months in the
States before it, then all the merrier.
I'm finding a lot of friends returning
from the States nowadays, moaning about the
feverish level of parochialness and nationalism
etc., but personally, the more they whinge
the more I'm attracted to it, and vice versa
with anything overly aggrandised.

Yeah,I got the file but have to dload an unzip program to open it. Had the P.C. redone a few months back and havent gotten to it yet. I'll do it another time,I have to head out now. As far as seeing for yourself, ofcourse that's always the way to go. I suppose any country at war would have nationalism turned up to 10. Personally,I'm too damned busy with the business of just living to notice any of it. You create your own reality and live in that I always say. Not that I'n oblivious it's just that it doesn't get me anywhere personally and I understand that in the big picture,I'm a grain of sand in an ocean and the big fish at the top are in control. Meanwhile, there's a mortgage to pay and kids to raise and various other struggles. Have a good day, chat to ya soon.

'I'm a grain of sand in an ocean and the big
fish at the top are in control' - unfortunately
in an ocean 10 parts fecal matter to 1 part H2O
nowadays.
Anyway, I'll be happy to hook up with anyone
in the general NY area once I get there. I'll
definetly need some accomadation advice because,
even though the summer jobs (at mandy.com)
invariably involve a lot of location work,
there's no actual mention of where it is exactly
they expect its overseas employees to sleep at
night - especially on the shitty wages they
dish out. I presume they'll sort something out,
but it would be cool to get some insider info
once I discover that I'll be crashing at So-or-So
Street.
